Free weekly free tax preparation from SimplifyCT (VITA)9:30 am - 4pm each Tuesday through April 14, 2026No appointments - first come, first serve SimplifyCT is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that is sponsored by the IRS for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program. The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offers FREE tax return preparation to low income households who generally earn $65,000 or less. Last year our volunteers were able to serve 8,700 individuals and families. Our free tax preparation service saved the community over $2 million in tax preparation fees and provided taxpayers over $10 million in refunds and credits, putting money back into our community’s households.

Renee Bronner Pessin's mother Helen was the only survivor of the Holocaust from her immediate and extended family of more than 50 people In Poland. Her father Sam, along with one brother were the only survivors of their large immediate and extended family. Having met while imprisoned in concentration camp during the atrocities of the Holocaust, Helen and Sam found each other after being separated during the War. They married soon after liberation. Eventually, they immigrated to the USA to start a new life. Renee feels it is more urgent than ever to share their story, especially to community listeners, to ensure that history does not repeat itself. She is able to do so through excerpts from her mother’s video testimony to the Shoah Foundation and family pictures saved through the horrors of the Holocaust. Presenter: Renee Bronner Pessin, a Fairfield County resident for the past eight years, is a descendant of two Holocaust survivors. Originally from Brooklyn, NY, she has lived in several cities and towns over the years. Renee has worked as a registered nurse, editorial associate for scientific journals and most recently, for over 20 years, as a freelance biomedical grant and manuscript editor. She is now happily retired, doing lots of volunteer work and spending quality time with her grandchildren.

During this 40-minute class, children and caregivers will read stories, sing songs, and do rhymes, followed by hands-on block-building activities all to encourage early literacy, social emotional learning and fine/large motor development. For children 24 months old through 5 years old with their caregiver.Drop-in program; space is limited. A ticket is required to participate. We will begin handing out tickets 30 minutes before the start of each class at the Children’s Desk. Caregiver and child must both be present at the Children’s Desk to receive their ticket. Ticket availability is limited and based on room size and class requirements to ensure the quality of each class.
