Children entering grades 1-4 enhance their oral reading skills by reading to trained therapy dogs from ROAR Ridgefield. Time slots will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Please bring a favorite book to read or pick one out in the library before your session. Registration is required and opens a month prior.Your spot may be given to a child on the waitlist if you do not arrive and check-in by 11:45am.Due to high demand, Ridgefield residents may be given preference for this program. Please let us know if you are unable to attend this program so we may offer your spot to another patron. Programs like this are made possible in part by the generosity of our donors.

Join us for the Closing Keynote presentation of our special A250: A Deep Dive into the Declaration of Independence program series offered in collaboration with Keeler Tavern Museum & History Center.We are honored to welcome Dr. Antoinette Brim-Bell, Connecticut’s 8th State Poet Laureate.  Dr. Brim-Bell will present an original poem written specifically for A250: Declaration Deep Dive that will engage with the ideals of the Declaration of Independence in a forward-looking way, particularly inspired by the tradition of inaugural poems. Dr. Brim-Bell is the author of three full-length poetry collections:  These Women You Gave Me, Icarus in Love, and Psalm of the Sunflower.  She has been nominated for the Pushcart Prize for both poetry and essay.  Dr. Brim-Bell is a Cave Canem Foundation Fellow and an alum of Voices of Our Nations Arts Foundation (VONA), and is a Professor of English at CT State Community College, Capital.Support for A250: A Deep Dive into the Declaration of Independence is provided by CT Humanities.  Additional promotional support provided by Ridgefield Commemorates America at 250.Click HERE to register.

Next Chapter Book Club is a unique community-based book club program for adolescents (16 & up) and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Our members love books for the same reasons most people do: they enjoy being transported to different worlds where they meet interesting characters and learn about exciting new things. Taking that journey with a group of friends makes it even more meaningful and fun.This inclusive book club meets most Mondays in Zoom and is open to anyone who enjoys a good story! Non-readers, non-verbal, emerging readers, fluent/avid readers are all welcome and encouraged to participate at their comfort level.
