Join us for First Chapter Fridays! We will read the first few chapters of a different book every month and then do fun activities based on that book! Participants will have an opportunity to check out the book or place a hold on it at the end of the Program. This month's book is "The Great Shelby Holmes" by Elizabeth Eulberg. Shelby Holmes is not your average sixth grader. She's nine years old, barely four feet tall, and the best detective her Harlem neighborhood has ever seen--always using logic and a bit of pluck (which yes, some might call “bossiness”) to solve the toughest crimes. When eleven-year-old John Watson moves downstairs, Shelby finds something that's eluded her up till now: a friend. The easy-going John isn't sure of what to make of Shelby, but he soon finds himself her most-trusted (read: only) partner in a dog-napping case that'll take both their talents to crack.

Join us for Young Hoosier Book Club for grades 3-5! Every month, we will meet and discuss one of the Young Hoosier Intermediate Nominated books. Each month we will rate the book on a scale of 1-5. In April, our ratings will be submitted to the Young Hoosier Book Award Committee.This month, we will be reading, "The Greatest Kid in the World" by John David Anderson. When Zeke, an admittedly "bad" kid, is mistakenly chosen to compete in the Greatest Kid in the World contest, he must change his behavior for the better. As Zeke concocts various plots to show the world just how “great” he is, however, he finds himself wondering what that word even means, and who gets to decide. And what kind of kid he wants--and needs--to be.

Kids ages 5 to 11 can bring along a favorite book and read aloud to some of the BEST listeners around:  The sweet and cuddly therapy pets from Love on a Leash!Registration is required.  Kids must check in at the Children's Desk the evening of the event and sign up for a 20 minute time slot.  They will then spend a few minutes reading with each of the dogs while also learning a little about what therapy pets do!
