Join us for First Chapter Fridays! We will read the first few chapters of a different book every month and then do fun activities based on that book! Participants will have an opportunity to check out the book or place a hold on it at the end of the Program. This month's book is "Out of the Valley of Horses" by Wendy Orr. The valley of horses is the only true place Honey remembers since her family stumbled upon it in their converted ice cream truck while escaping from the rest of the world, and the illness that was spreading there. Honey’s parents, her brother Rumi, and her NanNan become self-sufficient, living off the land and sharing the valley with mystical horses who seem to have a wisdom of their own. But there is a magic in the valley that prevents Honey and her family from ever leaving. When Honey suspects her father has become ill, Honey knows she must find a way to escape the valley to find help from a world she only knows about through stories.

Join us for Young Hoosier Book Club for grades 3-5! Every month, we will meet and discuss one of the Young Hoosier Intermediate Nominated books. Each month we will rate the book on a scale of 1-5. In April, our ratings will be submitted to the Young Hoosier Book Award Committee.This month, we will be reading, "Shelley Frankenstein: Cowpiggy" by Colleen Madden. Trying to live up to her family's spooky heritage, Shelley Frankenstein and her little brother, Iggy, collaborate to create terrifying monsters. But most of their creations aren't scary at all. Then, Shelley gets a fantastic idea after a visit to the family graveyard -- Cowpiggy!

Kids ages 5 to 11 can bring along a favorite book and read aloud to some of the BEST listeners around:  The sweet and cuddly therapy pets from Love on a Leash!Registration is required.  Kids must check in at the Children's Desk the evening of the event and sign up for a 20 minute time slot.  They will then spend a few minutes reading with each of the dogs while also learning a little about what therapy pets do!
