Program Summary Named in honor of the leadership that Kentucky Governor Paul and Judi Patton have exhibited throughout their careers. Patton Leadership Institute (PLI) is a regional leadership development program that covers eight eastern Kentucky counties. PLI builds cohorts of emerging leaders from throughout the region, who have assumed leadership roles in their communities but may not hold established positions. Participants in the program attend a two-day opening retreat and eight day-long sessions. The curriculum weaves together topics crucial to the development of community such as education, economic development, health care, energy, tourism, and government. Key leadership skills are integrated into each session.   Program Tuition Southeast Kentucky Chamber members receive members only pricing of $750 for tuition. Non-member program tuition is $1,000. Program tuition includes: All Meals Reading and study materials Entrance fees at all destinations Program speakers and facilitators Lodging (during opening retreat)

  The National Civics Bee Competition is a four-phase event. Phase 1 - Essays Submit a 500-word essay discussing your idea to use civics to solve a problem in your community. Phase 2 - Regional Competition The top 20 essays compete in the Regional Competition at the Mountain Arts Center. Phase 3 - State Competition The top three finalists from the six Regional Competitions compete in the State Competition at the Kentucky State Fair. Phase 4 - National Competition   The Eastern Kentucky Region includes: Bath, Boyd, Breathitt, Carter, Elliott, Fleming, Floyd, Greenup, Johnson, Knott, Lawrence, Letcher, Lewis, Magoffin, Martin, Mason, Menifee, Montgomery, Morgan, Perry, Pike, Powell, Rowan, and Wolfe counties. Regional Finalist 1st Place: $500 cash prize 2nd Place: $250 cash prize 3rd Place: $125 cash prize State Finalist 1st Place: $1,000 cash prize 2nd Place: $500 cash prize 3rd Place: $250 cash prize National Finalist State Finalists who advance to the national competition will compete for prizes worth more than $50,000.

These grants enable programmatic and academic programs that schools could not otherwise offer.
