Packed with information, beautiful photography, and illustrations, The Bird Book is a must-have for nature enthusiasts.  Registration is required.  About the Author:  Dr. Jay Jinsing Falk is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute and the University of Colorado. He is an evolutionary biologist and behavioral ecologist fascinated by the diversity that can be found within species, especially in sexual traits. During his PhD, he began studying White-necked Jacobin hummingbirds as a STRI Short-Term Fellow, and later as a Smithsonian Predoctoral Fellow. His findings, that some females of this species look like males while others do not, has become the cornerstone of his research program. He is inspired by the dizzying array of feather coloration that can be found in hummingbirds. After completing his PhD at Cornell University, he moved to the University of Washington to study hummingbird movement and metabolism. Now at the University of Colorado, he is investigating the genetics and development of feather coloration. Join Joy Marzolf from The Joys of Nature in learning how to improve your photography skills! The themes for July and August are "something you want to learn how to photograph better" and "your biggest photograph frustration." Now, she still loves to explore, but also to share her knowledge about wildlife, wildlife photography and nature in general. Join Kids Cooking Green to learn how to make a  tzatziki sauce that is easy to make and delicious to eat! Dress up grilled veggies, make a sandwich, add it to a summer veggie platter or serve with pita bread.  We'll provide all the ingredients you need to cook, you'll need to provide the following tools from your kitchen: Clean Kitchen Towel veggie peeler Box Grater Lemon Juicer or a good strong human squeeze! Measuring cup and spoon cutting board and knife Medium mixing bowl and spoon An adult caregiver must be present to supervise. In order to allow the most kids to participate, please only register once for your family to receive 1 supply kit and have all chefs in your household cook together. Ingredient supply packages will be available for pick up from Kids Cooking Green on Tuesday August 12 from 8 am - 5 pm or by other arrangement with Kids Cooking Green. Prior to kit pick up, you'll receive an email with detailed instructions on how to pick up your ingredient supply kit. Using all of their senses, and some math skills, kids will be given cash and asked to shop in teams. **OFFSITE LOCATION** This program will be held at the Community Center, 39 Marrett Rd, Lexington in Room 230/232. Join us for a monthly workshop where we will explore watercolor basics. These workshops are intended for adults 60+. All materials for the class will be provided. The workshops will be taught by artist Lea Baecksteiner. Lea is an artist and illustrator with a Masters in Fine Arts and Illustration from the Neue Kunst Schule in Basel, Switzerland. Originally from Switzerland, she now lives and works in the greater Boston area. Her range of artistic media includes oil, gouache, watercolor, ink, and digital painting. In addition to her work as a fine artists, Lea provides illustrations for books, magazines, and printed materials. Her style has been described as playful, minimalist, and well-proportioned. Lea has exhibited across New York City, Basel, and Boston areas. View her work and list of exhibitions on her website! Registration is required. Spaces are limited.
