Join Kids Cooking Green to learn how to make a  tzatziki sauce that is easy to make and delicious to eat! Dress up grilled veggies, make a sandwich, add it to a summer veggie platter or serve with pita bread.  We'll provide all the ingredients you need to cook, you'll need to provide the following tools from your kitchen: Clean Kitchen Towel veggie peeler Box Grater Lemon Juicer or a good strong human squeeze! Measuring cup and spoon cutting board and knife Medium mixing bowl and spoon An adult caregiver must be present to supervise. In order to allow the most kids to participate, please only register once for your family to receive 1 supply kit and have all chefs in your household cook together. Ingredient supply packages will be available for pick up from Kids Cooking Green on Tuesday August 12 from 8 am - 5 pm or by other arrangement with Kids Cooking Green. Prior to kit pick up, you'll receive an email with detailed instructions on how to pick up your ingredient supply kit. If your child becomes unable to attend this program, please notify the library as soon as possible. Repeated 'no-shows' without notification may prohibit your child from registering for future programs. Who says a salad needs to be green? Join us at the Lexington farmers' market for a scavenger hunt for ingredients to make a colorful salad. Using all of their senses, and some math skills, kids will be given cash and asked to shop in teams. They report back to our tent with the ingredients and learn how to make a tasty salad and a dressing. This event will occur rain or shine so dress accordingly. A caretaker/adult must remain on site at the market while the class is in session. Kids will be encouraged to taste test some ingredients they have purchased. **OFFSITE LOCATION** This program will be held at the Community Center, 39 Marrett Rd, Lexington in Room 230/232. Join us for a monthly workshop where we will explore watercolor basics. These workshops are intended for adults 60+. All materials for the class will be provided. The workshops will be taught by artist Lea Baecksteiner. Lea is an artist and illustrator with a Masters in Fine Arts and Illustration from the Neue Kunst Schule in Basel, Switzerland. Originally from Switzerland, she now lives and works in the greater Boston area. Her range of artistic media includes oil, gouache, watercolor, ink, and digital painting. In addition to her work as a fine artists, Lea provides illustrations for books, magazines, and printed materials. Her style has been described as playful, minimalist, and well-proportioned. Lea has exhibited across New York City, Basel, and Boston areas. View her work and list of exhibitions on her website! Registration is required. Spaces are limited. In 2023, Bill travelled to Costa Rica to explore the Pacific Lowlands and Central Mountains. During this virtual tour, he will take you for a cruise along the Tárcoles River to see Boat-billed Heron and American Crocodile. At Macaw Lodge and Private Reserve, he will show you Scarlet Macaw, Bare-throated Tiger-heron, and beautiful wildflowers. Esquinas Lodge in southwestern Costa Rica is a great place to see Great Curassow, Spectacled Caiman, and Tent-making Bat. At Las Cruces Biological Station, Bill will show you an incredible variety of tanagers (Silver-throated, Golden-hooded, Speckled). He will conclude his talk with a visit to the Talamanca Mountains to view Volcano Junco, Volcano Hummingbird, Long-tailed Silky-flycatcher, and Resplendent Quetzal. Registration is required. Bill Gette began leading area, domestic U.S., and international travel programs for Mass Audubon in 1986. Since then, he has traveled to all seven continents leading trips, studying nature, and photographing wildlife. He joined Mass Audubon full time in 1996 as the Founding Director of the Joppa Flats Education Center in Newburyport.  At Joppa Flats, Bill developed the Birder Certificate Program - a college level ornithology course; developed and taught the Certificate Program in Bird Ecology to train naturalist guides in Belize; coordinated the Center’s International Intern Program, and operated the Joppa Flats Bird Banding Station on the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge for over 20 years. Bill retired from Mass Audubon in 2016, but remains very active teaching workshops. He is the Past-President of the Friends of Parker River National Wildlife Refuge and current Board member.
