Stories in Fiber art exhibit reception 7:00-7:30: Music by Jessica and Zac Smith, flute and guitar 7:30: Remarks by artist Cindy Kennelly Refreshments will be served Artist's description: I create all of my artwork using sheep wool. I combine those fibers with silk and yarn to create my desired look. For this exhibit, I’ve chosen many of my all-time favorite books and created pieces to reflect the covers and/or content of those books. As a retired preschool teacher, you will notice that the majority of my pieces are related to children’s literature. In three pieces, the art truly reflects the cover of the book. In those cases I reached out to the authors and publishers and have received permission to make and exhibit the work. The observers can match the books to the art. Book titles include: Owl Babies, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, The House on Pooh Corner, Pete’s a Pizza, Giraffe Problems, Library Lion, The House on the Cerulean Sea, God Of the Woods, Music of the Bees, To Kill a Mockingbird. Bio: I've studied all aspects of felting: needle felting, wet felting, and nuno felting. My favorite pieces now incorporate at least one of these processes in my work. Over the past 10 years I've shown and sold my work on Etsy, Artsy, and at fiber shows. I am a founding member of TAG, the Art Gallery, in the artist's district in Boston, MA. Most recently I've been featured at Gallery Twist (Lexington, MA), Morse Institute Library (Natick, MA), Pearce Museum (Dublin, Ireland), Creative Hub of Worcester (Worcester, MA), Cambridge Art (Cambridge, MA), Mosesian Center for the Arts (Watertown, MA), Worcester Craft Center (Worcester, MA), LexArt (Lexington, MA), Environmental Education Center (Basking Ridge, NJ) and a solo show at the Gallery 01760 (Natick, MA). https://maynardpubliclibrary.assabetinteractive.com/calendar/hold-for-library-program-22/

Maynard Book Festival Author Talk: Luke O'Neil Luke O’Neil is the author of the acclaimed political and literary newsletter Welcome to Hell World and the book of the same name. His first collection of short fiction and poetry, A Creature Wanting Form, was published in 2023, and the follow-up, We Had It Coming, in November 2025. He’s a former writer-at-large for Esquire and was a longtime journalist for The Boston Globe, The Guardian, and many other newspapers and magazines. He lives in Massachusetts. We Had It Coming is a collection of stories that pulse with both the familiar and the uncanny. Learn how to uncover the past of any home—whether it’s 20 years old or 200. House historian Marian Pierre-Louis will introduce where to find the deeds to your house, how to chain a deed, and locate other sources of information such as the US Federal Census records, maps and tax records. And you’ll learn how to find the stories that bring the history of your house alive. Come learn 10 steps to get you started on your house history research. This talk is appropriate for both beginners and those who have research experience. Marian’s Bio: Marian Pierre-Louis is an educator who specializes in house history research, southern New England genealogy and historic cemetery research. Marian has been researching house histories for over 25 years. She has researched hundreds of houses across Massachusetts and New England. She contributed a chapter to The Stories Houses Tell – A Collection of Little Compton [RI] House Histories (2015) and again in a new volume (2022) A Second Collection of Little Compton House Histories. She also wrote the Old House Secrets series in the Medway & Millis Local Town Pages. For two years Marian was a volunteer docent at the Fairbanks House, the oldest timber-frame house in the United States. Time moves so fast and we don't often get the time to sit and appreciate a good poem. So let's change that - this meet up will focus on a different poet each month. Led by poet Rebecca Connors, we'll get a brief bio and details of the poet, and then spend the rest of the time reading a few poems by the author. While we enjoy the music and the voice, we'll use this time to explore how we connect to the poems. This is open to adults and teens 15 and up, no experience in poetry needed.
