Training occurs during your first appointment. The length of the appointment is 2 hours, please plan accordingly. Handwriting the Constitution is a social art project begun in 2017 by artist Morgan OâHara. It invites people from all walks of life to meet in public spaces to handwrite the US Constitution or other documents written to protect human rights and freedoms. This art practice was created so that people will know their rights, deepen their understanding of laws created to protect these rights, and to help resist negative thinking. To date approximately 2000 people have participated, both nationally and internationally. The goal of this art practice is to encourage people to hold their own Handwriting sessions on a recurring basis; to create a physical and psychological space that explores the practice of concentrated writing as an art form, and a process designed to bring people together in a quiet and calming way, all by focusing on human rights. It has been identified as a powerful and transformative form of activism for introverts. Morgan OâHara has been a conceptual artist for over 60 years. She has committed her life to making art which observes and renders visible aspects of the human experience of living in both 20th and 21st centuries. Handwriting the Constitution is a natural evolution from OâHara's drawing practice into a realm that explores the meaning of concentrated writing as an art form and a way to bring people together regardless of political leanings.  Meditation has been valued in the East for centuries as beneficial to physical, mental, and spiritual health. Now, Western medicine, through research-based studies is recognizing the efficacy of meditation for improving wellness. Meditation presents proven benefits for spiritual, physical, mental, and emotional health; as well as improved brain function and performance. Meditation can help to achieve balance, wellness, and aid in pain management. There is clear and compelling support for the value of meditation for the health of the spirit, upon which the health of the body and mind are based. Join Arlene Samel long time meditator for this informative program. There will even be a chance to try this meditation practice. Arlene Samsel is uniquely qualified and experienced in meditation, public speaking, and the performing arts. She has been an elementary school teacher and has also performed publicly as a musician for many years. In addition, Arlene was director of a camp where she taught children how to meditate. She has been meditating for 25 years and has given many meditation workshops and retreats which has enabled her to speak firsthand about the crucial role of meditation in enhancing the daily lives of busy people. To attend All Makers times, users must attend a Makerspace Orientation. For more information about the SPL Learning Lab Makerspace visit the Makerspace website. All Makers times are for experienced users only. Users must be capable of handling equipment in a safe and responsible manner. Once the orientation is complete, users will have access to the Learning Lab's All Makers hours, which are listed on the Makerspace website. The All Makers orientation does not provide instruction or training for the tools in the space, for the quarterly instruction opportunities offered in the Makerspace, please see the Makerspace website.
