Join us for an enriching outdoor painting workshop where every student creates their own unique masterpiece. Set against the inspiring backdrop of Lasdon Public Gardens, this En Plein Air experience—named for the French phrase meaning “in the open air”—offers a serene and stimulating environment to ignite your creativity. Under the guidance of Sarah Miller Totten, an accomplished painting educator and visual artist from Westchester County, you’ll learn how to bring the beauty of nature to life on your canvas. With a personalized approach to instruction, Sarah’s expertise fosters confidence and creativity in artists of all levels. This workshop emphasizes individual artistic expression, ensuring every participant develops their own style and techniques. Let the wonders of nature and your own imagination guide your brush—reserve your spot today!   Perfect for all levels!Easels are available if needed. Oil Painting Materials will be provided to those who need them for an additional fee of $10 paid to the instructor. Participants are welcome to bring and work with their own supplies. Ecotheraphy, also called nature therapy, focuses on improving mental and physical wellbeing through outdoor activities. Master Naturalist Bruce Rosenberg will lead the guided walk to different areas of Lasdon that will be explored as nature and its benefits are experienced up close. All participants should be prepared to walk, wear comfortable clothing and shoes. Bring water. This is a rain or shine event. Space is limited. Registration required.

Urban naturalist Bruce Rosenberg will lead a to examine over twenty plants and trees in the Arboretum that have medicinal qualities and are used to treat physical and mental conditions. All of these plats can be grown in your own backyard and are available at local nurseries. He will also briefly discuss some of the active chemical constituents of those plants which help to fight infections, inflammation and a host of other ailments. Meet at the Memorial Garden entrance. This tour will examine some of the dangerous/toxic plants that are found in your backyard and surrounding area. Parts of these plants including leaves seeds and berries if ingested can cause individuals to become violently ill. Besides these outdoor plants, several common house plants sold at garden centers and nurseries have leaves and berries that are poisonous and can result in humans and their pets to also experience unpleasant physical symptoms. it is hoped that by taking this tour you will be able to identify these dangerous plants and prevent you and your family from getting ill.
