Tai Chi with Sloan and Josephine Fridays, 11:00 am March 7, 14, 21, 28 April 4, 18, 25 This fall prevention program from NUMC in collaboration with the New York State Dept. of Health is taught by a certified Tai Chi instructor, trained by the NYS Dept. of Health and the Tai Chi for Health Institute in NY.  Instructors teach Tai Chi to individuals over the age of 60 (or over age 18 with disabilities) and those that may be suffering from Arthritis.  Tai Chi will meet once a week, for one hour each class, for a total of 15 sessions. Class limit of 25.  Registration required.   Prevención de Caídas: Tai Chi con Sloan Viernes, 7, 14, 21, 28, de Marzo, 11 am Viernes, 4, 18, 25,  de Abril, 11 am Este programa de prevención de caídas de NUMC en colaboración con el Departamento de Salud del Estado de Nueva York es impartido por un instructor certificado de Tai Chi, capacitado por el Departamento de Salud del Estado de Nueva York y el Instituto de Tai Chi para la Salud en Nueva York. Los instructores enseñan Tai Chi a personas mayores de 60 años (o mayores de 18 años con discapacidades) y aquellos que pueden estar sufriendo de artritis. Tai Chi se reunirá una vez por semana, durante una hora cada clase, para un total de 16 sesiones.  Se requiere registro.  Límite de clase 25.

WMPL Book Discussion with Head of Reference, Kathleen Gaskin The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store, by James McBride. Wednesday, February  5, 2025, 2:30 In-House, 7:00 pm on Zoom. 1972. A skeleton was found at the bottom of a well, and the residents of small-town Chicken Hill have long held the secret of the murder mystery. Also, in this marginalized neighborhood, immigrant Jews and African Americans lived side by side with shared ambitions and sorrows, coming together to keep a deaf boy safe when the state came looking for him to institutionalize him.  When the truth is finally revealed about the murder, McBride, with his masterly storytelling skills and deep faith in humanity, shows that even in dark times, it is love and community - heaven and earth - that sustain us.
