The Erie County Public Library is excited to pilot a Living Library event as part of our mission to foster understanding and strengthen connections in the Erie community!A Living Library is a unique program where community volunteers-our "Living Books"-share their personal experiences through one- on-one or small-group conversations with patrons. These open, respectful dialogues provide a space for curiosity, challenge assumptions, and break down barriers.We are seeking volunteers with lived experiences to serve as Living Books on topics such as:Overcoming adversity (e.g., homelessness, addiction, disability)Cultural and religious experiencesCareer journeys, especially in unique professionsLife as an immigrant or refugeeStories of resilience and breaking stereotypesProgram Details:Hosted at Iroquois branch library on September 6th, 10 - NoonReaders (attendees) will browse a catalog of Living Books and engage in 10 minute conversationsVolunteers are asked to select in advance a self-chosen "title" and summary to add to the catalog Library will provide optional questionnaire to help you prepare for conversationsWhy Join?Share your story in a meaningful way - Your lived experience can educate, inspire, and challenge perspectivesCreate empathy & understanding - Personal storytelling helps break down barriers and reduce biasesFoster connections - Help participants engage in conversations that build a stronger, more inclusive communitySign up below to be part of this powerful experience!
