Free guided tours of Williamson County's recently restored Courthouse are available courtesy of the Williamson Museum. Visible for miles around, the imposing beautiful neoclassical structure is the focal point of the central business district and the fifth structure to serve as a county courthouse. Austin architect C.H. Page designed the building, projecting porticoes supported by Ionic columns, and classic pediment and balustrade detailing. The $9 million courthouse restoration was successfully completed in 2007 through a joint effort of Williamson County and the Texas Historical Commission, returning the structure to its original splendor. The pediments and balustrade were removed in 1965. Please arrive at the museum a few minutes before tours are scheduled to begin. The museum is located on the Square at 716 South Austin Avenue, just across the street from the Courthouse.
