Calling all \"Yarnies\"! What is a Yarnie??? It's a slang term used to describe a person who has an obsession with either natural or man-made fibers or filaments used in crocheting and knitting or other needle crafts.  Does this describe you? If it does, please bring your knitting, crocheting, needlepoint, crewel, cross stitch, or any other yarn crafts and join other Yarnies in a group setting!  We have two groups -- come to either or both! The morning group meets every other Wednesday from 10:00-12:30. The evening group meets every other Wednesday from 5:15-7:45 pm.

Practice reading out loud with our volunteer therapy dog Zelda! Reading out loud helps children build reading confidence and promotes lifelong literacy skills. One of the biggest barriers to children reading aloud is fear of judgement, which is where Zelda comes in! ......More

Practice reading out loud with our volunteer therapy dog Zelda! Reading out loud helps children build reading confidence and promotes lifelong literacy skills. One of the biggest barriers to children reading aloud is fear of judgement, which is where Zelda comes in! This program is registration only. Participants may register at the Youth Reference desk or call 414-769-2244. Participants are asked to check in 5 minutes prior to their assigned time. Participants who arrive after their assigned time begins may not be able to participate in the program that day.

Susan Caya-Slusser of the Wisconsin Historical Society will share the history and stories from the Pendarvis Historical Site. Learn why we are known as the Badger State!  Business and life partners Bob Neal and Edgar Hellum met in 1934 and dedicated their lives to saving the structures and stories of Mineral Point’s Cornish and mining history. The couple salvaged, restored, and made these buildings shine again, even establishing a popular restaurant on the site to fund their preservation efforts. Tucked away in a valley in historic Mineral Point, Pendarvis celebrates the groundbreaking community of some of the first Wisconsin “badgers.” As you approach this charming neighborhood, the 19th century will instantly come alive through the quintessential limestone buildings and cozy nooks.
