Wake Up Spirit  1st Sunday every month, 11am-1pm At Floating Lotus Gloucester Wake Up Spirit is a dance of heart and community. A safe place to connect to spirit through movement and sound. We are so blessed to have this time and space to move our bodies freely, without judgement, to dance our prayers and dreams together.  We gather on the first Sunday of every month at the Floating Lotus on Main Street in Gloucester. Join us for this celebration of life. Feel free to join for the full event or just drop in for a while. We usually start with a warm up of yoga or meditation followed by movement and listening to live music presented by Jon and Lisa and friends.  $10-$15 suggested donation. Kids are free.

Windhover Center for the Performing Arts proudly welcomes The Joe Mulholland Sextet back to our outdoor stage August 3 at 4pm.  Joe’s original compositions range from Duke Ellington-inspired ballads, to funky New Orleans grooves, to high-speed contemporary jazz workouts. His music is melodically and harmonically rich, and the arrangements for the horns expand the sound well beyond the individual artists to surround the audience with music. Joe and his rhythm section mates have played more than 1,000 nights together, creating an instinctive collaboration among these accomplished and rousing musicians.  Come enjoy this swinging, colorful music in the idyllic setting of the outdoor stage at Windhover.

From John Hays Hammond Jr.’s attempts to communicate with supernatural entities using a Faraday Cage to Irene Fenton Hammond’s extensive astrological writings under a mysterious pen name, this 55-minute fully guided specialty tour sets the stage for a fun and informative seasonal experience unlike any other—enhanced by the dramatic, Gothic-inspired architecture of the building and the nighttime atmosphere. Electronic candles will be provided for optional use by visitors for the duration of the Spiritualism Tours by Candlelight. Not recommended for children under 13. LITERARY GLOUCESTER, A WALKING TOUR, began as a project of the Gloucester 400th+ in 2023, and it proved so popular it was picked up by the Gloucester Writers Center in 2024 to keep it going. Now approaching its third year, Phil Storey continues to add rich details to the walks, to be held every second and fourth Saturday morning from May through September 2025, culminating in a Sails & Trails tour on the 27th. Gloucester is known as an endless source of fish tales, but it is also home to a vast literary landscape. T.S. Eliot, often regarded as the most important poet writing in English in the 20th century, summered in Gloucester throughout his childhood. He bought a composition notebook at Proctor Brothers downtown, in which he wrote his early poems, including "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock." Horror writer H.P. Lovecraft set a number of his weird tales in Gloucester such as ?The Shadow Over Innsmouth? featuring the American Legion building on the tour. One of the best-selling American author of the 19th century, Elizabeth Stuart Phelps, summered in Gloucester most of her life. Sadly, she is largely forgotten now, as women artists so often are, but in her time she was so popular she attracted other creatives to the area, including Longfellow, whom she brought to Norman?s Woe, a rocky outcropping which inspired ?The Wreck of the Hesperus.? Judith Sargent Murray, Kipling, Charles Olson, and many others are ready to be re-discovered on a free two-hour walking tour of Gloucester with noted raconteur Phil Storey. Philip Storey is a preeminent historian of the local. A noted raconteur and story-teller, he developed this engaging tour over the course of the Gloucester 400+ and is excited to continue hosting it in partnership with the Gloucester Writers Center.
